Saidah Baba Talibah - No More

This past week, I went to Saidah Baba Talibah’s CD release party for (S)Cream. As per usual, she and her band put on a kickass show, and I was eager to take a listen to the record. There are so many standout tracks, ranging from soul ballads to grimy funk rockers.

This particular track, “No More”, is somewhere in between and one of the slower tracks on the album. There’s a nice bit of grind to it, with a funky bass line that makes you think of late, late nights. Plus you get a good sense of Saidah’s vocals as they dip and soar.

Another local lady (via South Africa and Vancouver), Zaki Ibrahim’s Eclectica (Episodes In Purple) yields this King Britt remix of “Money” that keeps me moving.

Half Full - Windwalker

My friend Helen’s band, Half Full, put out their long-awaited CD, Face It, earlier this year. Helen’s voice, especially live, will knock you the eff out. One day, I’ll post some video for you.

This track, “Windwalker” gives you some idea of the pipes.

Played for 10 times.
