Aaron forwarded me this new video from TV On The Radio, for the song “You”. Off their new record, Nine Types of Light, it’s a great song of heartbreak and loss that’s a front runner for my 2012 VD Mix. And the video is terrific and hilarious.

A friend of mine pointed me to this new Jill Scott track, featuring Eve, wondering if this was as odd a pairing to me as it seemed to him. Hell no, I reminded him. Remember the track she did with Darius Rucker???

Anyway, if this lead-off is any indication of what’s to come with her new record, I’ma be first in line on release day. Two words: fonk ee. And Miss Scott’s voice and writing are both in classically fine form.

Saidah Baba Talibah - No More


This past week, I went to Saidah Baba Talibah’s CD release party for (S)Cream. As per usual, she and her band put on a kickass show, and I was eager to take a listen to the record. There are so many standout tracks, ranging from soul ballads to grimy funk rockers.

This particular track, “No More”, is somewhere in between and one of the slower tracks on the album. There’s a nice bit of grind to it, with a funky bass line that makes you think of late, late nights. Plus you get a good sense of Saidah’s vocals as they dip and soar.

The Return of Aloe Blacc


As he said on his first album, Shine Through, a new Aloe Blacc record has “been a long time comin’”. On his new record, Good Things (out today), it seems Aloe is embracing the singer side of his performer self, at least judging by the two tracks I’ve heard so far.

Aloe Blacc - I Need A Dollar by stonesthrow

So far I’m digging this single, with it’s plinky piano and throwback bass line. I’m also enjoying the range Aloe takes his voice through on this track. It’s very funky, and would be equally welcome chilling at home or moving on the dancefloor.

The NPR First Listen series is awesome. You can listen to upcoming albums in there entirety up until release day. Their latest posting is the highly anticipated, by me anyway, record from John Legend and The Roots. Full disclosure, I haven’t listened yet, but it’s late, so forgive me. It will definitely make my back-to-work Monday easier to Wake Up to. ;)

Cee Lo Green - F**k You

I love Cee Lo Green. From his Goodie Mob days to his solo work to his projects with Jack Splash (The Heart Attack) and Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley). This song, posted on youTube yesterday, makes me love him more. I’ve found my anthem!
